Tom’s Cellars was established in West Pymble by husband and wife team Tom and Vanessa Mazzei in 2008. In November 2010 their second store in North Turramurra was opened.
Tom started in the liquor industry over twelve years ago managing stores for the retail outlet, Crown of the Hill. Between the years of 2000 and 2002 Tom moved to Adelaide where he studied and topped his degree in Bachelor of Wine Marketing. During his degree Tom also started his own Brand Management and Consulting company where he worked for many wineries. At the end of the degree an opportunity arose to move back to Sydney and work for one of the oldest and most prestigious wine distributors, Fesq & Company. For five years Tom distributed Leeuwin Estate, Moss Wood, Mt Langi, Pierro, Fox Creek and many other brands. During this period Tom realised many specialty bottleshops had sold out to major corporations, the result being that great wineries both well established and up and coming, were being greatly under represented. This was how the the vision of Tom’s Cellars was created.
Vanessa has a double degree in accounting and law, and has worked for David Jones, Arnotts, Dairy Farmers and Maxxium. While at Maxxium Vanessa was working with brands such as Jim Beam, Piper Heidsieck, Absolut, Grants and Glenfiddich. Vanessa is the wife and mother to Tom’s three children. They are Tom’s inspiration and Vanessa brings her own unique perspective to the stores.
Gavin Hunter has also been working in the Liquor industry for over 19 years. He too has seen all sides of the industry. Among his many rolls Gavin has been a manager for the Kirribilli Ex Servicemen’s club, a senior store manager for Vintage cellars and a brand manager for Lerida Estate, a Canberra based winery. Gavin brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for wine that is unparalleled.
